Prayers of the People: July 2026

Prayers of the People

July 5th, 2026

PRAYER FOR OUR WORLD

Loving God, our Creator, Redeemer, and Giver of Life..

We know you love a party because you gave us Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and life with you through your Son, Jesus! Thank you for those gifts of celebration that we don’t deserve, but we gratefully receive.
This weekend we celebrated our country’s 250th birthday!

We celebrated the good our country has done – or aspired to do - or worked to accomplish - over the years,
but there was sadness in our celebrations this July 4th as we  experience or become aware of persons in our country and around the world who have lost their right to live where they choose, to eat good food, to see a doctor or receive medicine they need, to go to school or engage in meaningful work, to worship, or even to live without fear. We lament these failures of our country today.

We also acknowledge that this church building resides on land that was called Mother by the Dakota Nation and other Native peoples from time immemorial. Our hearts grieve for the hurt we have caused and continue to cause the Indigenous people even as we explore how we as a community can support them especially through our work with Ain Dah Yung.

PRAYER FOR OUR COMMUNITY

Loving God..

Thank you for the Awaken groups that support this community by leading worship through music and with technology, pastors and staff who teach and lead in many ways we don’t even see (but you do!), staffing Kids’ Community, youth groups, and welcome team, making coffee and preparing the Lord’s Supper, Prayer Team, offering a listening presence and practical care, leading Life Groups and Affinity Groups. Thank you for opportunities we have to serve others: International Association for Refugees, Every Meal, International Justice Mission, Ain Dah Yung, the church garden, Walking with a Purpose. Help us serve as Jesus served with a full heart and lots of love and grace.

PRAYER FOR OUR LIVES

Jesus you love us, live in us, and fill us with light and love,
We ask that you give each of us the ability to see as you see,
Hear as you hear,
Speak as you spoke,
Do as you did,
Walk where you want us to walk,
Live as you lived!

We cannot do it alone, but through the power of your Spirit we can do whatever you call us to do. May your will be done – and with your help may we do our part.

Once a month, we invite a member of our community to write and share prayers for the world, our community, and our lives during the service. In between, the body sings a refrain in spiritual agreement of the prayers. The goal is to hear from a diversity of voices in this space (in age, gender, culture, etc), and to spark creativity and encouragement in your own prayer life. Email Katherine if you’re interested in sharing your prayers with the community.
